This course is designed for parents, teachers, and couples interested in raising a family. We will dive deeper into the foundations of Islamic parenting and tarbiyyah, in light of the Qur’an, hadith, and Islamic scholarly tradition. We will provide practical guidance on how to nurture the Muslim child in mind, body, and soul as they enter each stage of development.

Foundations of Islamic Psychology and Spirituality

In this course, we’ll explore the relationship between the traditional Islamic discipline of Tasawwuf (Spirituality) and modern psychotherapy. We will consider the ways in which modern, ‘Western’ psychology complements, contradicts, and is completed by traditional spirituality.

Each session will include an opportunity to ask questions about loved ones (or one’s self) who may be struggling with psychological or spiritual challenges, either privately or in group discussion.

About the Instructor

Brandon Rakowski works as a mental health counselor. He studied Arabic and Islamic studies at Al Maqasid Seminary for two years then continued his Islamic studies for three years in Ankara, Turkey. He pursued further education in mental health counseling after noticing a need for Muslim therapists with a background and training in traditional spirituality (Tasawwuf).

He now serves as the religious director at Revival Ihya and provides therapy through Sina Health, in Allentown, PA.
